The Surface started after founder, Zion Blu, realized how much untapped potential was in the underground and DIY scene. Countless talent is out there waiting to be discovered, existing because of passion and nothing more. Realizing there was a community of talented artists who just want to share their work, Zion combined their passion for activism with the goal of giving artists more opportunities to share. The Surface aims to unite a passion for the arts with the needs of the community, bringing people together not just to celebrate creativity but for the common good too.

Every show of ours aims to bring a wide variety of multimedium artists together. The Surface is all about community and together we build just that. The underground music scene, or DIY shows, is where The Surface was born. In even the smallest of towns you can always bet that some band brought their friends together in a garage or basement somewhere to melt some faces and share their hard-work with the world. This is the birthplace of punk. This is the birthplace of us and uniting artists of all mediums, together, is what we pride ourselves on. The Surface isn’t just for musicians and visual artists; we welcome everyone.
